Boston, MA, December 5th, 2023The ALS Association, the largest philanthropic funder of ALS research, and NuvoAir, the leading value-based specialty care provider for heart and lung conditions, announced their partnership to support virtual pulmonary care for people living with ALS and their caregivers. The partnership is part of the ALS Association’s plan to bring high-quality pulmonary care to all those living with ALS.

Symptoms of respiratory decline in ALS generally go unnoticed until advanced stages. Therefore, frequent monitoring and ongoing respiratory care are crucial to ensure that timely and appropriate care and treatment can be provided. NuvoAir has a vast track record of providing tech-enabled high-quality virtual care to patients with asthma, COPD, and cystic fibrosis, amongst other lung and heart diseases.

“People living with ALS deserve access to high-quality respiratory care regardless of their zip code,” said Calaneet Balas, President and CEO of the ALS Association. “We are grateful to partner with NuvoAir, the leading innovator in this space, to bring the first-ever virtual pulmonary care to the ALS community. This will expedite people getting non-invasive ventilation and hopefully reduce hospital visits and complications from respiratory decline.”

"We view this partnership as a beacon of hope for those living with ALS. Our multidisciplinary team, empowered by cutting-edge technology, can detect early infections and declines in lung health. This enables our specialists to intervene promptly, extending and enhancing the quality of life for patients,” said Lorenzo Consoli, Founder and CEO of NuvoAir, “It is an honor for NuvoAir to serve the ALS community and through this collaboration, I believe we can make a significant and meaningful difference in the lives of many."

The partnership launches with two ALS clinics in Texas, Texas Neurology and the University of Texas Health Science Center, with the imperative support of Respiratory Quality Services, a Texas-based company providing in-person respiratory therapy.

“After serving the ALS community for over a decade with non-invasive ventilation, it is apparent that interventions in pulmonary functions between clinic visits is paramount in getting patients the care they need and preventing complications from ALS,” said Keith Sanborn, owner of Respiratory Quality Services.

“We are eager to see the impact of NuvoAir’s virtual care on patients at initial sites, as we desire to make this a standard of care for all those living with ALS,” added Balas.

This partnership marks a significant leap towards ensuring equitable access to high-quality pulmonary care for ALS patients nationwide.
